Dear Friends,

Let me share with you a recent story.

David lost his job 2 years ago, while devoting his time to his wife’s recovery from a lengthy illness. While helping him save his family’s home from foreclosure, Chabad JEC provided David and his family the comfort of knowing that they belonged to a community. David donned Tefilin for the first time since his Bar Mitzvah, the entire family celebrated Chanukah in their home and put up Mezuzot on their doorways.

This story did not take place half-way across the globe or even a few miles away. It happened right here, in your community. David’s story is one of many that happen on a monthly basis.

It is stories like these that constantly remind us that we must never rest in our mission of reaching every Jew and providing them all with the tools necessary for exploring and living their Judaism.

The real truth is that people like you are the ones who make these stories possible. Without the support of the community, we could never do the vital work we do. From adult education to community outreach to hospital visitations, the key to their success is the partners who fund these programs.

By all accounts, 2013 was a successful year. Hundreds of children and adults attended over 40 programs held at Chabad JEC.

But we don’t look at it as mere numbers. Each is a story.

As the end of 2013 nears, 7 out of 10 Americans will donate to charity, I ask you to consider supporting Chabad Jewish Enrichment Center and the Jewish future of our community. Without your partnership we won’t be able to tell these stories:

  • Welcoming a new family into a loving and vibrant community
  • Having a child smile with pride after learning to read the aleph bet for the first time
  • Providing a sense of belonging to a senior citizen in a nursing home
  • Wrapping Tefilin with Max for the second time, 26 years since his bar mitzvah

With each passing day, the need for a strong and vibrant community becomes more imperative. Not enough words can be said to emphasize our turbulent spiritual times. If we are able to give even just one more child a Jewish education, this alone is enough fuel to keep us going on our mission.

Together, we can create many more stories.

May G‑d bless you, in the merit of your kindness, that this coming year be one of great success, both materially and spiritually.

Thank you for your friendship and support.

Methods of Giving

This information is not intended as tax advice. A competent tax advisor should be consulted.
Here are some methods of giving that you should consider at year end.

Remember that donations to Chabad JEC are 100% tax deductible (speak to your accountant to see how this will benefit you on your return).

Auto Donation - If you are planning to purchase a new vehicle in the next few months donating it to Chabad JEC can bring you a greater value on your tax return. Your tax donation value would be evaluated based on www.KBB.com while selling it on the open market may bring you 30-40% of that value.

Real Estate Donation - You may have real estate that has depreciated in value. You can get the full appraised value for that real estate even if you couldn't sell it for that amount.

Appreciated Stock - Due to the shifts in the market over the past year you may have appreciated stock. Donating (transferring) the appreciated stock directly to Chabad JEC helps you avoid capital gains tax while getting you a donation credit at 100% of the stock value.

Cash (or check or credit card) - Of course good old fashion donations via check, credit card or wire transfer to Chabad JEC all can benefit you on your tax return. Speak to your tax advisor to see exactly how your contribution can benefit you. Donations to Chabad JEC can be made via website: www.ChabadJEC.org/Donate or via mail Chabad JEC, 6 WHitefield Road, Chestnut Ridg NY 10977.

Airline Miles - Donating airline miles or AMEX award miles or similar award programs is now considered a charitable contribution eligible to be deducted on your taxes. For this or for information on any other contribution please contact me by replying to this email.

Matching Grants – If you work for a large corporation your contribution may be matched by your employer. Chabad JEC qualifies for these matches because of some of our social program.

Legacy & Estate Planning – Remember Chabad Jewish Enrichment Center in your will. Leaving a portion of your estate to Chabad JEC is the simplest way to reduce estate taxes and the easiest way to leave a lasting legacy.

The real value of your contribution is above and beyond the cash value as your dollars are directed to helping us achieve our mission to inspire every Jew regardless of affiliation or background and to provide opportunities for Jewish education and experience.

May you and yours be blessed with material success in the New Year and blessings for health and nachas.
